Families come in all the time with 1-5 kids, and/or with kids on the way and with lots more expected. The same question they all ask though is, How big should our pool be? A pool’s size and shape can not be changed, so deciding the correct size for today’s needs and for future needs, is very important.
How do I choose the size of my pool? We can only tell you to consider the following questions when wondering How Big Should Our Pool Be?
Who are the pool’s main users and how often will they likely be using the pool?
Is it just mom and dad? Mom and dad and future kids? How many kids? Grandparents, relatives, and friends? All of these questions must be asked and possible scenarios thought through in order to plan for future pool parties. Know this, kids just want to swim, and no child has EVER boycotted a swimming pool because it was too small.
Does anyone plan on doing laps in the pool?
-If considering a pool that can double over as a lap pool an above ground pool best suited for this would be an oval shaped pool or very large round pool.
How much patio would I like to have around the pool and what are the objects (grills, furniture, etc) that I’d like to fit on the patio?
-If you want to have a decked out pool with a custom deck, pergola, outdoor tv, grill, and kitchen, consider looking into an above ground pool that can double over as a semi inground pool. These pools are luxurious, fashionable, and priced significantly below their full in ground counterparts.
Once the pool and needed patio are placed in the yard, will I have enough space for other items I’d like to have in my yard? (i.e.- jungle gym, trampoline, etc)
- -The larger the pool the more the yard a pool and deck could require. Think forward, what else might the you or the kids want in the yard in the future. If this isn’t your dream home, remember above ground pools give you that same utility as an inground pool for a fraction of the time & financial commitment. Plus the shapes allow for maximum additional utility of the yard.
How often do we plan on entertaining and what is the likely number of people at our gatherings?
-Even at a family gathering, not everyone is swimming. Plus don’t make a decision based on an event that occurs once a year. Think through the realities of the true need of the pool before installing the pool that takes away your entire yard. That additional space may have been a perfect trampoline, or added toy that really made your backyard the dream get away you hoped for in the summers.
Will your family change size in the coming years?
-Kids! Adopting? Borrowing? Watching relatives, parents, or others? All of these things must be considered when choosing a pool size.
A regretless pool purchase is a pool purchase that brings joy for many years to come. We would love to help you with your pool project or when you’re asking How Big Should Our Pool Be?
